The individual who performs the BRIT MILAH of a Jewish baby boy on the eighth day after his birth is called a mohel. The Brit Milah is the Biblically commanded ritual circumcision, a sign of G-d’s HOLY COVENANT with the PATRIARCH Abraham and the Jewish people.

MOSHIACH

Jewish mystical doctrine expresses the belief, based on Biblical prophecy, that a Holy redeemer will appear at the beginning of an enlightened age of peace. Moshiach translates literally as “the anointed one.” Biblical prophecy anticipates the arrival of Moshiach ben David, a descendant of King David, who will rebuild the BEIT HA’MIKDASH (Holy Temple in Jerusalem) and gather together the exiled Jewish people. This arrival is to be preceded by Moshiach ben Yoseph, who will perform certain actions of TIKKUN in preparation for the arrival of Moshiach ben David. The advent of these two messiahs will mark the beginning of an era called ACHARIT HA’YAMIM (End of Days), during which all human beings are judged by G-d. The Acharit ha’Yamim, it is prophesied, will be followed by an era of all-pervasive peace and true connection with G-d, called the MESSIANIC ERA. See TIKKUN OLAM and MESSIANIC ERA.
